Privacy Policy — Luscinia
The short version
Luscinia is a companion app for a Bluetooth night light. It talks to your light directly over Bluetooth and nothing else. It has no account, no sign-in, and no internet connection. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data — not to us, not to anyone. Everything the app remembers stays on your own phone.
If you only read one section, this is it. The rest just spells it out.
1. Who we are
This app is provided by Bubobit, the maker of the Luscinia night light.
If you have any question about privacy, contact us at privacy@bubobit.com.
2. What data we collect
None.
Luscinia does not collect, request, or process any personal data. Specifically, we do not collect:
- your name, email address, phone number, or any account details (there is no account);
- your location (see Section 4 about the Bluetooth permission);
- your contacts, photos, files, microphone, or camera;
- advertising identifiers or any device identifiers;
- usage analytics, statistics, or behavioural data;
- crash reports or diagnostic logs.
There is no server, so there is nowhere for your data to be sent even in principle.
3. What stays on your phone
To work the way you'd expect, the app saves two small things in its own private storage on your device only:
- Your language choice (so the app opens in the language you picked).
- The names you give your routines (e.g. "Weeknights", "Weekend") — these labels live only on the phone that created them and are deliberately never sent to the light or anywhere else.
This information never leaves your phone, is not readable by us or any third party, and is removed when you uninstall the app.
4. Bluetooth and the "location" permission
The app needs Bluetooth to find and talk to your light. That's the only reason it asks for Bluetooth access.
On older versions of Android (Android 11 and earlier), the operating system itself required apps to hold a location permission before they were allowed to scan for Bluetooth devices — a quirk of how Android used to work. Where that applies, Luscinia declares the scan as "never for location": we do not use it to determine, derive, collect, or store your location in any way. We are not interested in where you are; we only want to find your night light.
5. No internet, no servers, no third parties
- The app does not request internet access and contains no networking code.
- It includes no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party tracking SDKs.
- The light itself communicates only over local Bluetooth and never connects to the internet.
- Because nothing is collected, nothing is shared, sold, or transferred to anyone.
The current time is sent from your phone to the light over Bluetooth when you connect, so the light knows the time of day for its routines. That exchange happens locally between your phone and your light, and the time is not stored or transmitted anywhere else.
6. Children's privacy
Luscinia is intended to be set up and configured by a parent or guardian for a child's night light. The app is operated by the adult, not by the child.
Because the app collects no personal data from anyone, it collects no personal data from children. We do not knowingly gather information from children (or adults), and there is no profile, account, or tracking of any kind. This is consistent with the principles of children's-privacy rules such as COPPA and the GDPR's protections for children.
7. Your privacy rights
Privacy laws such as the EU/UK GDPR give you rights over personal data that a company holds about you — for example, to access it, correct it, or have it deleted. In Luscinia's case there is simply no personal data to access, correct, or delete, because none is ever collected.
If you believe you have a privacy concern about the app, you can always reach us at privacy@bubobit.com and we'll help.
8. Changes to this policy
If we ever change how the app works in a way that affects privacy, we'll update this policy and change the effective date at the top. Since the app is designed to stay fully local and data-free, we don't anticipate material changes.
